Feminist sport advocates of the 1970s and eighties wanted women to shell strong and they hoped evidence of women s physiologic distinctiveness would challenge definitions of femininity and justifications of male supremacy build upon the vagary of womens weakness. This paper argues that it is time to question the privileging of the implemental frame and to look more explicitly at the limits of physical strength, indeed at the limits of sport, as a lane to subverting the ideologic power of gender.
